BIOGRAPHY
Georg Wadenius, born May 4, 1945, has been a professional guitarist, composer, arranger and producer since 1968. He first became known in his native country, Sweden, through his work with the group "Made in Sweden" and for his children's songs. He was also early on one of the most sought after studio players in Stockholm.
He was then hired by "Blood, Sweat and Tears" and moved to the USA and played with them for 3,5 years (1972-5). Later on he became a member of the "Saturday Night Live" band (1979-85) and in the 1980's he was one of the 4-5 most used session guitarists in New York, playing on records by Luther Vandross, Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Donald Fagen, Michael Franks, Joe Thomas, Backstreet Boys and countless others.
He also toured briefly with Roberta Flack (?80), Luther Vandross ('81), Simon and Garfunkel ('82) and Steely Dan ('94).
In the mid 90s GW returned to Scandinavia, where he lives in Oslo, Norway. He is still playing as much as ever and touring with his jazz trio or quartet. He has released a few albums - "Interloop" with Magnus Lindgren (2005) and two more albums with children's songs - "Zzoppa" (1999) and "Hajar Du"(2005).. He also completed an album (Gewadoka) with the amazing composer/artist Doug Katsaros in 1997.
Georg has also produced several albums with various Scandinavian artists (Silje Nergaard, Lisa Ekdahl, Jan Eggum, Sigvart Dagsland, Rita Eriksen, Anne Grete Preus, Anne Sofie von Otter among others).
Georg has received 5 Grammies over the years and just about any music award that you could think of in Sweden (Hagström Prize, Guitar People Prize, the Cornelis Prize, Heffaklumpen and Swedish Radio's Guldkatten).
"Jul På Svenska" (Swedish Christmas) with Arild Andersen and Jan Lundgren was recorded in 2009, and it received rave reviews. Dagens Nyheter wrote that "it is the only Christmas album you need to have"!
In the fall of 2010 Georg released the album named "Reconnection", featuring various vocal artists, notably Frida (of ABBA fame), Nina Persson, Andreas Kleerup, Peter Jöback, Helen Sjöholm, Nicolai Dunger, Rita Eriksen and Silje Nergaard, where his characteristic guitar playing is at the center.
Georg also recorded a live album with the group 'GEJOMA' (with Jonas Holgersson and Mattias Svensson), which was released only on vinyl (to begin with) in early 2011. It is now also available on CD.
During 2011 and 2012, Georg wrote the music for two children's musicals, "Teddy og Marian", that was performed aroung Norway with Riksteatret, and "Bakgårdens Orkester" (lyrics by Lotta Olsson), which is now being solicited to various Scandinavian theatres. He finshed recording and mixing an album with Hymns (recorded with Trio X from Uppsala) titled "Psalmer".
In February of 2013 he put together a super group with Per Lindvall, dr., Lars Larry Danielsson, bs. and Jesper Nordenström, keys, to play the music from his legendary album, "Cleo". They tour a couple of times a year and have recorded two new albums, "Cleo2" and "Cleo with friends".
In the fall of 2013 he recorded a new Christmas album, titled "Jul på Norska" with Arild Andersen and Jan Lundgren. The album was (together with "Jul på Svenska") released in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland.
Georg has released an album in 2016 with Children's songs - with compositions to poems by Lotta Olsson. It is titled "Livet är nu".
In August 2014 his two friends from Blood, Sweat Tears and the Saturday Night Live Band, Lou Marini, sax., and Lew Soloff, tpt, joined the Cleo band to form the group "The New York Connection". They played clubs and festivals in Norway and Sweden and continued their collaboration in Feb. 2015.
Tragically, Lew Soloff passed away in March, so we will see how this project continues.
Georg also recorded 3 more albums in 2016. The first one with the amazing Norrbotten Big Band, titled "Jojje Wadenius, 70". The second one was with his children's songs, recorded with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Trio X, titled "Jojjes klassiska barnvisor". The third one was recorded with Bendik Hofseth and Kjetil Bjerkestrand in Norway, titled "Farvel".
2016 was also filled with writing 8 tunes for a musical revue, "Prata högre, Karin", with words by Lotta Olsson, and 7 arrangements of Grieg's music for jazz quintet.
